Pyrgos – Villages of Tinos

Pyrgos is the largest and most celebrated village in Tinos, renowned across Greece for its marble-sculpting heritage dating back centuries. Walking its streets feels like wandering through an open-air museum — marble fountains, carved lintels, and ornate facades line every alley.

Some of Greece's most important sculptors — Gianoulis Halepas, Dimitrios Filippotis, and painter Nikiforos Lytras — were born here. The Museum of Marble Crafts and the Halepas Museum keep their legacy alive, while the Fine Arts School continues to train new generations.

The heart of Pyrgos beats in its shaded main square, under the enormous plane tree where locals and visitors gather for Greek coffee, loukoumades, and the famous local galaktoboureko. Tiny workshops still operate nearby, where you can watch artisans carve marble by hand.

Just a short drive below Pyrgos lies the fishing bay of Panormos, with bobbing caiques and some of Tinos' finest beaches. Agia Thalassa, Rochari, and Kavalourko offer crystal waters and sandy shores — perfect for a post-exploration swim.
